Try to schedule a massage when you don’t have to be anywhere immediately after. Have you ever booked an appointment thinking you had plenty of time to get there? Have you ever had a massage immediately followed by an urgent errand? How did that go? Were you able to maintain the relaxation you achieved during the massage, or was it gone the minute you left the parking lot?
If possible, it’s best to schedule a massage when you do not have to be anywhere else for the rest of the morning, afternoon, or evening. It is helpful to take time to relax and maybe even take a nap or go to bed early. Your body will thank you as it needs time to integrate the work it just received.
Remember that you will spend part of the time lying on your stomach. If you just had a large meal you might feel uncomfortably full. Also, it’s difficult to receive abdominal work if your bladder is full so hold off on all that water until after the massage! You don’t want to spend your massage time in the restroom, do you? It is best to have a light meal a few hours before. Your body will feel better when it’s not distracted by the digestion that occurs with relaxation.
Alcohol before a massage is not a good idea. Massage therapists need communication with you about their pressure. Alcohol dulls your senses and you may not be able to judge the depth of the massage well. Massage also increases your circulation amplifying drunkenness and intensifying hangovers. If you arrive to an appointment after drinking, you may be asked to reschedule. This is for your safety and well-being.
Plan to arrive a few minutes early to avoid feeling frenzied or rushed. This will facilitate the process of relaxing the muscles more quickly. This is especially true if you are coming in for the first time. There will be paperwork to fill out. Be prepared. Arriving early also allows time for a last-minute bathroom break.
At Sacred Pathways Sarasota, we will be prepared to provide your service at the agreed appointed time. This time is exclusively yours and ask that you arrive a few minutes early to take care of any preliminaries (paperwork, bathroom, etc.) in advance of your start time.
We understand that good intentions can sometimes go awry. Therefore, please be sure to communicate with us the soonest possible if you are going to be late or cannot make your appointment. We will do our best to accommodate you but that may not always be possible. That is why our policy states that your session will be shortened in order to serve all clients in a timely manner and that we expect payment for missed appointments. You can see our Cancellation and Late Policy on the website for more information.
On a final note, we hope that you will continue your self-care after seeing us and remember to include some rest time when you schedule a massage.
